LAHORE: Limited-overs leg-spinner Usman Qadir announced his retirement from Pakistan cricket on Thursday.

The spinner, who is the son of leg-spin legend late Abdul Qadir, thanked coaches, team-mates, and fans for their support throughout his career with the national team.

“Today, I am announcing my retirement from Pakistan cricket, and as I reflect on this incredible journey, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude. It has been an immense honour to represent my country, and I’m thankful for the support of my coaches and teammates who have been with me every step of the way,” the 31-year-old Usman wrote on a social media platform.

“From unforgettable victories to the challenges we faced together, each moment has shaped my career and enriched my life. I’m deeply appreciative of the passionate fans who have always stood by me; your unwavering support has meant the world.”

During a brief international career from 2021 to 2023, Usman played a lone One-day International – against South Africa at Centurion in 2021 — and 25 T20 Internationals for Pakistan. The Lahore-born player represented the country in his final T20 International against Bangladesh during the 2023 Asian Games at Hangzhou. The bowler took 31 T20I wickets at an average of 18.48.

Usman expressed his intent to carry forward the rich legacy of his father who captured 236 wickets in 67 Tests.

“As I step into this new chapter, I carry with me the spirit of Pakistan cricket and the cherished memories we created together. Thank you for everything,” Usman said.
