CHITRAL: Civil dispensary of health department in the border village Akroi of Arandu was re-opened here on Friday after remaining closed for 12 years due to the conflicts between different tribes of the area.

The primary healthcare facility formally started functioning after the elders of the tribes forged compromise due to efforts of district administration and the health department.

District health officer Dr Fayaz Rumi told Dawn that mountainous village consisted of tens of hamlets whose residents faced hardships as they had to travel to Drosh town or Arandu due to the closure of the dispensary.

He said that after resolution of the dispute between tribal communities, the paramedical staff has been posted there along with the required stock of life saving drugs and instruments.

EXHIBITION: An exhibition of art and craft was organised in Laspur valley of Upper Chitral under the aegis of civil society organisation LAJWARD in which both male and female artisans presented their pieces of work.

The event was held by British Council under its ‘Community based conservation of Silk Route heritage’ project which aims to preserve the old culture from decay with the advent of modern age.

The event attracted a large crowd of both locals and tourists who evinced keen interest in the crafts made of coarse woolen cloth, local wood and clay.

District police officer Upper Chitral Attiq Shah and director of the organisation Dr Zahra Hussain gave away prizes to the participants.
