Policeman shot dead ‘over property dispute’

KARACHI: A policeman was shot dead in the Mauripur area in what officials said a property dispute on Saturday.

Keamari SSP Faizan Ali said that Constable Mohsin Nazeer had left his home for his place of duty at Police Headquarters Garden. As the uniformed official came out of his home in Sher Mohammed Village on main Mauripur Road, a lone assailant opened fire on him.

The constable suffered critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The SSP said that the alleged killer fled the scene in his car. When he reached near the Mauripur railway crossing, policemen patrolling on a motorcycle tried to intercept him. The suspect resorted to firing and police returned fire and arrested him in a wounded condition.

During grilling, it was transpired that the suspect, identified as Amanullah, alias Mani, killed the policeman over some personal enmity.

The police claimed to have recovered a pistol used in the murder from his possession.

Mauripur SHO Shabbir Husain said that the constable and the held suspect had some property dispute.
