KOHAT: The police on Sunday foiled an attempt to rob a cash van by arresting two robbers in a successful operation led by Lachi tehsil DSP Sajjad Haider and SHO Fazal Mohammad.

The police said that robbers riding on a motorcycle tried to stop a vehicle transporting cash to a bank branch in Shakardara area by firing on it on the Lachi-Shakardara Road.

They said that the van was carrying of 70.6 million cash.

The police said the cash van was hit by several bullets, but the staff was unharmed.

They said as soon as the incident was reported, a police party immediately reached the spot, and arrested the robbers after giving them a long chase in the hilly area.

Kohat district police officer Mohammad Umar Khan himself supervised the action.

The arrested robbers were identified as Abdul Wasey, a resident of Kamalkhel area, and Mohammad Saqib of Shadikhel area.

A Kalashnikov, a pistol, dozens of cartridges and the motorcycle they were riding were seized from the arrested robbers.

A case was registered against them in the Lachi police station.

The DPO announced cash rewards and certificates of appreciation for the police party.
