MUZAFFARGARH: Savera Bibi, a victim of an acid attack, succumbed to her injuries on Monday while undergoing treatment in the hospital for almost three weeks.

The attack occurred on Sept 20 in the Rohillanwali area of Muzaffargarh, when assailants broke into her home at night and threw acid on her and her family as they slept.

The police said the attackers, identified as Muhammad Imran and Muhammad Irfan, sons of Bashir Ahmad, entered the home of Kalsoom Bibi, wife of Muhammad Shafi, and threw acid on the family members. The attack left Kalsoom Bibi, 50, Savera Bibi, 20 and Sania Bibi, 6, severely injured. The incident took place in Mauza Binda Ishaq, 30 kilometers from the city area.

Neighbours alerted the police and rescue services, who arrived at the scene to provide assistance. The injured were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Rohillanwali police registered a case under section 336B of the Pakistan Penal Code, and a manhunt was launched to apprehend the attackers.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident and directed Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar to take action and submit a detailed report. District Police Officer Syed Hasnain Haider said that all suspects were arrested within hours of the incident.
