RAWALPINDI: As part of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s vision to empower women, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Beenish Fatima on Monday launched the ‘Women on Wheels’ Programme at Girls Guide House.

A police spokesman said the CTO announced that anyone from the Girls Guide House who wanted to take scooter or motorcycle driving training under the programme should contact the traffic police.

The programme will be started by the traffic police in the institute, she added.

Regional Girls Guide Commissioner Dr Saira Mufti welcomed the CTO and the girl guides presented her with a bouquet.

Ms Beenish later cut the ribbon and formally inaugurated the programme. About 25 girl guides would benefit from the programme.

The CTO said our aim is to empower more women through the Women on Wheels Programme. She said if girls are independent, there will be no burden on their parents.

The programme has been started so that women do not face any problems in going to school, college, university and even offices. Driving licences will be issued to them in a short period of time.

The CTO also announced that women teachers of Rawalpindi and surrounding areas who wanted to get car or motorcycle driving training should contact the traffic police training institute.
