LAHORE: Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani was among the ten Lahore Race Club (LRC) members who were elected unopposed for the year 2024-25 here on Tuesday.

Besides Gilani, Syeda Abida Hussain, Makhdum Syed Ahmad Mahmud, Syed Pervez Hussain, Arbab Mohammad Zahoor, Javaid Khalid, Azmat Ali Ranjha, Mahood Rafi, Fawad Ahmad Cheema and Dr Gohar Ejaz were the other elected members.

Steward Mahmood Rafi told Dawn that the abovementioned LRC members had filed their nominations for as many seats for the stewardship.

The election was due to be held during the Annual General Meeting of the LRC on Oct 12. However, since no other member opposed them, they stand elected unopposed, he added.

Their formal swearing-in ceremony takes place on Saturday when they will elect the chairman for the next term.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Race Club steward, Dr Gohar Ejaz announced that the Lake City Pakistan Derby 2025 scheduled to be held at the Lahore Race Course on Feb 23 will have the biggest-ever prize money of Rs10 million.
