KARACHI: A three-year-old girl was found murdered in Federal B Area on Wednesday, police and rescue services officials said.

They added that the child’s body was recovered from a street in ‘Qabail Colony’ in Block 11 of Gulberg Town.

Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi told Dawn that elder siblings had left their home to study at a seminary in the area. The younger sister also followed them. Meanwhile, her mother realised that the child was not home and came out to find her daughter. However, she could not find her.

He said that half an hour later, the minor’s body was found from the street in the slum area. The corpse was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

The SSP said that apparently she was strangled with a rope or a piece of cloth because there were injury marks on the neck.

The investigators were waiting for final reports of doctors.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed told Dawn that “post-mortem was conducted and all samples have been collected”.

She added that “cause of death and opinion regarding sexual violence is kept reserved”.

DIG-West Irfan Ali Baloch told Dawn that during the initial probe the investigators had found ‘significant’ information about the identity of the suspect and they were working on it.

He said CCTV footage had been obtained from the area in which a man was seen taking her away.
