LAHORE: Multan police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested four out of the six alleged robbers involved in killing a couple outside a restaurant a week ago.

Police said that six alleged robbers riding on three motorcycles snatched Rs1 million from a man in Purani Kotwali police jurisdiction and fled towards Bosan Road late on Tuesday night.

Purani Kotwali SHO Shabana Saif and her team started chasing the suspects who were signaled to stop at a picket when they were fleeing towards the Bahauddin Zakaria University (BZU).

The suspects did not stop and opened fire on the police that was retailed.

Police say when the firing stopped, four out of the six suspects were found lying on the ground with bullet injuries, while two of them fled the scene.

The police arrested the injured suspects, identified as Ali Raza, Arif, Arshad and Abdul Rehman, who were shifted to a nearby hospital.

The police also recovered Rs1 million cash, two motorcycles and two pistols from the spot where the injured suspects were found.

As per police sources, the investigation revealed that the suspects were also involved in killing a couple outside a restaurant in Gulgasht Colony on Oct 3.

They said Imran, 33, his wife Amna Yousuf, 29, and their child were coming out of a restaurant when two motorcyclists sprayed a volley of bullets on them. Imran and his wife suffered bullet wounds and died on the spot, while their child remained unhurt.

Gulgasht police had registered a double-murder case against the unidentified suspects after the incident.

Multan City Police Officer (CPO) Sadiq Ali Dogar had constituted a special team led by Gulgasht Division Superintendent of Police (SP) Saifullah Gujjar, DSP Rana Zaheer Babar and others to investigate the matter and arrest the suspects involved in the case.

The CPO told the media that the suspects were also involved in other robbery and murder cases.

He announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the team involved in arresting the suspects.
