SWABI: Speakers at the concluding ceremony of a two-day conference held at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology on Wednesday stressed the need of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to reduce the impacts of climate change on humans.

Experts and faculty members of leading universities from across the country and abroad participated.

The conference, organised by the chemical department of the institute, also maimed to provide a platform to academia and industry to work together for sustainable economic development.

Prof Fazal Ahmad Khalid, GIK Institute Rector, who was the chief guest on the occasion, called for engaging youth to learn about the emerging challenges, particularly the climate change.

Prof Muhammad Salman Siddiqui of Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway, spoke on the role of advancing global sustainability initiatives, and stressed the need for addressing environmental challenges, ensuring sustainable economic growth, promoting innovation and result-oriented research and bridging the knowledge gap.

Other speakers stressed the need for strengthening linkages between industry and academia to prepare the students according to the requirements of the industry.

BODY FOUND: The Chota Lahor police recovered the body of a young girl from the motorway’s service road area, according to a statement issued on Wednesday.

The police said they were informed by locals about the presence of a body in the area. They said there were torture marks on the body, which showed she was beaten up before being killed with a firearm.

The police have also shared pictures of the girl on social media, hoping her family might be traced. The Chota Lahor police registered an FIR against unidentified accused.
