PESHAWAR: Local artists and performers at a cultural event held here on Wednesday demanded of the provincial government to set up an art academy in the name of Pashto film star, Badar Munir to promote Pashto cinema culture.

The event was arranged under the auspices of All Pakistan Badar Munir Federation (APBMF) to mark 16th death anniversary of Pashto film hero Badar Munir. Noted film artists, performers and play back singers attended the event.

Addressing the event, speakers said late Badar Munir was an icon of Pashto film industry and contributed to performing art for four decades. Badar Munir was an uncrowned king of Pashto film industry aka Pollywood. Participants also demanded commemorating death anniversary of Badar Munir at official level so that young artists and performers could know about contributions of the hero of the silver screen of the yore days.

Javed Khan Yousafzai, president of APBMF said setting up an art academy in the name of late film star would help them revive Pashto cinema culture on scientific lines.

Late Badar Munir had played leading roles in about 400 Pashto, 85 Urdu, 31 Punjabi and 11 Sindhi films during his eventful film career and ruled over Pashto film industry for decades.
