LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday stayed the relocation of an old fish market from Urdu Bazaar Circular Road to outside the city and restrained the government from harassing traders.

Representing the traders, Advocate Shan Ghumman argued that the district administration made a decision to relocate the old fish market outside the city after reaching an agreement with a single vendor.

He contended that one individual does not have the authority to make decisions against the wishes of all vendors. He said the livelihoods of dozens of vendors were at stake due to the unilateral decision of the government.

The counsel asked the court to set aside the district administration’s agreement for relocating the fish market.

Justice Abid Hussain Chattha issued notices to the district administration and sought a reply by Dec 3.

The judge also stayed the shifting of the market and prohibited the harassment of the vendors.
