KHYBER: A five-day Khyber sports festival began at Jamrud Sports Complex here on Thursday.
The event is jointly organised by provincial sports directorate and Khyber district administration. A notification issued from Khyber House said that 54 teams of cricket, football and volleyball comprising of 612 players would compete during the festival in Jamrud, Bara, Landi Kotal and Malagori.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Jamrud Sports Complex with an opening match of cricket. Assistant Commissioner Dr Aamirzeb, who was chief guest on the occasion, said that the purpose of organising the sports festival was to attract local youth towards healthy and productive activities.
He said that there was no dearth of talented players in Khyber and a number of players had represented Pakistan at international level in different sporting events.
