OKARA: A man was arrested by police on charge of raping his sister at Chak 18/4L on Friday.

As per FIR, the 24-year-old man used to harass his unmarried sister who complained to her mother but she did not believe her daughter. A day back, the suspect overpowered his sister as she was asleep at night and raped her.

The victim girl called police emergency 15 and reported the incident.

The Cantt police responded to her call, arrested the suspect and registered a rape case on her report.

SENTENCED: The additional sessions judge (ASJ) awarded the capital punishment to a man for murder and ordered him to pay Rs0.5m compensation to the family of the victim.

Six people had shot dead Mehr Ali in 2022 when he along with other family men was busy in his cattle pen at village Jhedhu. The attackers included Asif, Murtaza, Noor, Agha Riaz, Walayat and Nasir. Asif had exchanged harsh words with Mehr. On the day of the incident, Asif along with other five accomplices entered the cattle pen of the victim and shot him dead.

The Ravi police had submitted a case challan to the sessions court.

ASJ Shahzad Ahmad after conclusion of the trial proceedings awarded the death sentence to Asif for committing murder. In case of default in payment of compensation, the convict would undergo six months more imprisonment. His five accomplices were acquitted on the benefit of doubt.
