LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that children with type-1 diabetes will receive insulin delivered to their homes.
“Special cards will be made to ensure the supply of insulin to sick children,” the chief minister stated while chairing a special meeting on the health sector on Friday.
She explained that a government-approved company would supply insulin in accordance with cold chain protocols and other SOPs. “The insulin for all pilot project will begin in three districts, including Lahore. Type-1 diabetes patients will be able to apply through a dedicated app or helpline,” she added.
Additionally, she ordered the rebranding of basic health units (BHUs) as ‘Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics’ to enhance healthcare facilities in remote areas. The chief minister approved the creation of a performance management framework and KPIs for evaluating healthcare staff performance. She also approved the establishment of labs in hospitals located in Mianwali, Jhang, Layyah, Attock, and Jhelum.
In connection with International Girls’ Day, she emphasized, “Girls’ courage, determination, and ability can change the world. Go ahead; we are with you. Our daughters, sisters, and girls are the future of our nation.” She asserted that it is not only a right for girls to nurture their dreams and talents but also a national duty.
The Punjab government, she said, is following a comprehensive roadmap for the protection, education, health, and welfare of girls and women. Initiatives such as e-bikes, virtual police stations, a pink button, pink games, and scholarship programs have been introduced for the daughters of the nation.
“The journey to provide a safe environment, quality education, and financial independence to the daughters of Punjab is in progress,” she concluded.
