SWAT: A cleanliness campaign aimed at preserving environmental hygiene and beauty of Mingora city was launched by the Water and Sanitation Services Company (WSSC) on the special instructions of its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tanvirur Rehman here on Friday.

The campaign began with the cleaning of the Landey Kas stream and would be extended to other streams flowing through Mingora. WSSC spokesperson said that the operation involved the use of heavy machinery and a workforce of approximately thirty sanitary workers and supervisors.

She said alongside cleaning the streams, an awareness campaign among local residents, restaurant owners and hotel operators had also been launched about the importance of maintaining cleanliness, especially around the Mingora streams. She added that residents would be educated about the need to keep their surroundings clean and avoid polluting the streams.

CEO Tanvirur Rehman instructed the sanitation staff to pay special attention to both the streams and the overall cleanliness of Mingora city. During visits to the localities of Landey Kas, Mulla Baba, Makan Bagh and Bangladesh areas, he asked the residents to dispose of their household waste properly by placing it in dustbins or leaving it in front of their houses for collection, rather than discarding it in the streams.

“WSSC staff will collect and properly dispose of the waste,” Mr Rehman assured the residents. He stressed that maintaining the cleanliness of the city was a top priority, but it couldn’t be achieved without the cooperation of the public.
