SHANGLA: Public transporters observed a daylong wheel-jam strike across the district to press for the fares’ revision fixed by the district administration for different routes and unjustified fines by traffic police, here on Friday.

The all Shangla public transport union had called the strike for indefinite time and transporters parked their vehicles at bus stops due to which government officials, students and shopkeepers suffered great hardships and could not reach to their destinations as there was no government-run transport services in the district.

Sultan Khan, president of the transport union told Dawn that the traffic police used to stop the public transport drivers and receive heavy fines despite obeying traffic rules.

He further said that they were unable to drive their vehicles on the roads with the low fares fixed by the administration.

Later in the day, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Fawad Khan called a meeting of the transporters’ representatives at his office and after negotiation, the transporters agreed to call off their strike.

The DC assured that the administration would consider to revise the fares and police would be stopped from unjustified imposition of fines on transporters.
