KARACHI: The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) has condemned the arrest of its senior leader Kamal Shah in a drug case and termed it ‘political victimisation’ by the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government in Sindh.

In a statement issued on Friday, PFF chairman Mehran Ali Shah said that the police had falsely implicated his uncle, Kamal Shah, in a criminal case.

He said that the law enforcers had raised Kamal’s residence without any justification and arrested him on “fabricated drug charges”.

“This is a clear case of political victimisation,” he said, accusing local PPP leaders of attempting to silence his voice.

He said that he would not stop raising his voice for the fishermen community. “Enough is enough. The Sindh government cannot silence us,” he declared.

Meanwhile, an FIR lodged at the Ibrahim Hyderi police station stated that Kamal Shah was arrested during checking in Syed Para on Thursday after drugs were found from his possession.

The police registered a case against him under relevant sections of laws.

Dawn reached out to several senior police officers and PPP leaders for their version, but they did not respond.
