KARACHI: Girls outshined boys as all the three top positions were bagged by them in the results of the Intermediate Part-II (class 12), Science Pre-Engineering Group, Annual Examinations, announced by the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Friday.

The first position was taken by Amina Ahsan, a student of BAMM PECHS Government College for Women. Passing in ‘A-1 grade’, she secured 1,001 marks out of a total of 1,100.

The second position was bagged by Nuzrah Jamal of the Aga Khan Higher Secondary School with 994 marks. Syeda Aliza Ayaz of Khatoon-i-Pakistan Government Degree College for Women secured third position, with 992 marks.

The number of candidates who succeeded with ‘A-1 grade’ was 679, around 1,809 candidates succeeded with ‘A grade’, 2,835 with ‘B grade’, 3,314 with ‘C grade’, 2,323 got ‘D grade’ and 110 got ‘E grade’ while 52 candidates simply cleared the exams.

This year, some 24,194 candidates got registered for the pre-engineering group exams, while 23,671 candidates participated in the exams, out of which 11,122 were declared successful, thus bringing the success percentage to 46.99.

Congratulating the successful students, BIEK chairman Prof Ameer Hussain Qadri said that after the announcement of the results of all the groups of Intermediate, a big ceremony would be held in their honour to encourage the position holders, to which their parents, teachers and media, will also be invited.
