RAWALPINDI: Punjab Environment Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) Rawalpindi chapter on Saturday shut down four pyrolysis plants (plastic waste into hydrocarbon feed stocks) and eight brick kilns for polluting environment.

A major operation against air pollution has been undertaken in Rawalpindi district under which four pyrolysis plants, which were causing air pollution, were completely demolished. Also, eight illegal brick kilns which had become a serious threat to human health have also been shut down. This action was taken on the instructions of the deputy commissioner, in which police support and assistant commissioners were also involved. According to EPA officials, toxic fumes and chemicals from these pyrolysis plants and brick kilns had polluted the air of the area, affecting health of citizens.

In the course of action, the authorities concerned have also announced strict legal action against owners of illegal units to avoid such a situation in future. The deputy commissioner said providing a clean and healthy environment was the first priority of the government, and such actions would continue.
