KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead in an alleged encounter in Orangi Town on Sunday.

West-SSP Tariq Illahi Mastoi said that the Iqbal Market police carried out a raid in Hawa Gothfor the arrest of some criminals. However, they resorted to firing and in an ensuing exchange of gunfire, one suspect, identified as Mohammed Shahnawaz, was killed.

The police claimed to have recovered an unlicensed pistol, cash and a motorcycle from his custody.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for completing medico-legal formalities.

Meanwhile, an elderly man was killed on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.

The Steel Town police said that the man, identified as Basri Mohammed Khan, 75, was axed to death at Qadir Nagar Goth. The police suspected some personal enmity behind the incident.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.
