LAHORE: The body of a female student was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the Punjab University hostel on Sunday.

The deceased, Umm-e-Habiba, was a fifth semester student at the Institute of Education and Research (IER) of the university and was living in a girls hostel. Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a room of the hostel.

The deceased went to her friend’s room at around 3pm and said that she wanted to rest there.

Her friend allowed her to stay in her room and left. When the friend came back at 7:30pm, she found it locked from inside.

She knocked on the door but did not find any reply. She alerted the security of the hostel.

The security guards approached the room and broke its door open and found the body of the girl hanging from the ceiling fan.

The elder sister of Habiba was also a student of the same department and living in the hostel.

Muslim Town police and Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) collected evidence.

The PU spokesperson suspected that the girl might have committed suicide but said that police would investigate the cause behind the incident.
