ISLAMABAD, April 5: Members of the People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) have submitted two different adjournment motions to the National Assembly Secretariat seeking debates on privatization of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) and Pakistan Telecommunication Company (PTCL).
The motions, the copies of which are available with Dawn, were filed on Wednesday under Rule 92 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 1992.
MNAs Qamaruz Zaman Kaira, Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed, Zulfiqar Gondal, Syed Khursheed Shah, Syed Naveed Qamar and Syed Nayyar Bokhari have moved the motion on the privatization of the PTCL. In their motion, the PPP members stated that the PTCL privatization had caused a grave concern amongst the general public as the PTCL was a “handsome profit earner and was providing employment to Pakistanis in different categories.”
The PPP members also termed the “sale of the PTCL dubious and against the law.”
The motion on the privatization of the PSM was signed by seven PPP members. In their motion, the opposition members stated that the government had “sold the PSM project on a very unreasonable price knowingly that the PSM was minting handsome profit.”
The motion on the PSM has been signed by Raja Pervez Ashraf, Ghulam Murtaza Satti, Zamarrud Khan, Zulfiqar Gondal, Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed, Syed Nayyar Bokhari and Qamaruz Zaman Kaira.
