LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has sought details about illegal housing schemes from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA).

She was presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday in which the proposal to impose a ban on selling of plot files of illegal housing schemes was reviewed. The LDA director general was directed to submit a report within 15 days in this regard.

The CM directed the development institutions to submit a comprehensive plan to fill the potholes of roads in Lahore.

She was apprised about the ‘Lahore Shop and Drop Tramway’ that the 8.2 km long tram would pass through Kalma Chowk, Main Boulevard, Hussain Chowk, MM Alam Road, Mini Market and other areas.

As many as five trams will be operated simultaneously and be available after every two minutes at every stop.

A briefing was also given about the project of construction of a special road from Karim Block to the motorway.

The proposal to demolish Datanagar flyover in view of its dilapidated condition was reviewed in the meeting. The LDA Road Network Restructuring Plan was also submitted in the meeting.

Meanwhile, the CM paid a tribute to the tireless work of rural women. In connection with the International Day of Rural Women, she said: “Rural women are living examples of hard work, sense of responsibility and sacrifice. The efforts of rural women in the stabilisation of agricultural economy are commendable. The role of rural women in the development of farming and livestock besides performing their household responsibilities is highly valuable.”

The CM further said: “Our commitment to provide equal facilities to rural women is unwavering. The Punjab government is actively working for the welfare of rural women.”

She said the field hospital project was underway to provide treatment facilities to rural women.

“Primary health units are being upgraded for women’s health in rural areas. Virtual police station has been established to protect rights of women from all segments of society.”
