RAWALPINDI: As many as 14 people, including three women, were injured after their coach overturned while avoiding a motorcyclist in Kahuta area on Wednesday.

The police and Rescue 1122 crew reached the spot and shifted the injured to different hospitals.

Police said the accident happened when a passenger coach heading towards Rawalpindi from AJK overturned while avoiding a motorcyclist who all of a sudden appeared in front of the coaster.

According to SHO Kahuta, the motorcyclist also received minor injuries and was stable. He said that three of the injured victims were shifted to hospital while the rest were allowed to go to their homes after they were provided the first aid.

Despite top level change in the traffic police department of Rawalpindi in August the traffic situation could not be improved as a coach accident in Kahuta claimed 26 lives .

It has also emerged that a passenger coach with seating capacity of 22 passengers was overloaded when it plunged into a deep ravine in the Kahut area. Overloading of passenger vans and buses is a common feature in the garrison city.

Police said 7807 public service vehicles were challaned and a fine of Rs8,475,000 and was imposed. Legal proceedings were initiated against 688 drivers for driving without licence, while licences of 27 drivers were cancelled for negligent driving.

Police have also registered 49 FIRs against public service drivers during the ongoing campaign, said the spokesman.
