KARACHI: Police on Friday claimed to have killed two more suspected killers of a police constable in an ‘encounter’ on Friday.
SSP-West Tariq Illahi Mastoi told a press conference that Constable Abdul Ghaffar, an ex-army man, was killed in a shoot-out with three armed robbers on Thursday. He said that two suspects managed to escape and on Friday morning, a police team carried out an intelligence-based raid in Orangi for their arrest.
On seeing the police, the suspects resorted to firing and in an ensuing exchange of the fire, the police arrested two suspects in wounded condition while their as many accomplices fled.
The held suspects, identified as Najeebullah and Faheem Jan, died on way to hospital, he added.
The police claimed to have recovered two unlicensed pistols, two cell phones and cash from their custody besides one motorcycle used in the crime.
The officer said the killed suspect, Najeebullah, was an Afghan and had a past criminal record as there were five FIRs registered against him at different police stations.
In another incident in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, one suspected robber was gunned down by a private security guard while another was arrested in wounded condition by police after an ‘encounter’. A passer-by also received injuries in the episode.
Area SHO Pir Shabbir Haider said two suspects attempted to loot a citizen at a restaurant near Munawar Chowrangi. The private security guard resorted to firing, resulting in the instant death of one suspect.
