Is this development?

LIVING in Karachi has become a misery for the people owing to the never-ending ‘development work’ that is being carried out in the name of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line project across the

University Road. The project is being executed at the proverbial snail’s pace.

Hardly 10 people are seen working here and there, and at this pace we can expect this project to end at least 10 years from now, if ever. There are multiple points on the road where there is traffic congestion owing to the narrowing of lanes. To name a few, one experiences horrible traffic jams every day at Nipa, in front of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology, at old Sabzi Mandi, etc.

I would suggest the mayor to drive through this road on his own during office hours to witness the chaos himself. Maybe that is how he will realise the pain that the common people face every single day. There is an urgent need to speed up the pace of work by increasing manpower and resources. I hope this simple solution is not beyond the comprehension of Sindh gove-rnment officials, and they will make mea-ningful efforts to alleviate the misery.
