MUZAFFARGARH: A youth died on Saturday after falling from his motorcycle due to a bump from a speed breaker in the Talhiri area of Muzaffargarh, where the Deputy Commissioner’s House is located.

The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Muhammad Waseem, a resident of Talhiri, while his two brothers, who were riding as passengers, sustained serious injuries in the accident.

The incident drew the attention of Deputy Commissioner Quratul Ain who ordered an investigation.

This comes despite the fact that deputy commissioner uses the road and passes over the raised section of the road almost every day, which was primarily installed to slow down traffic near the DC House. The speed breaker has reportedly been the site of multiple accidents.

Highway Department officials said the speed bump was constructed without proper authorisation, while the contractor claims it was built under orders from the administration.

The road was constructed last year, and at that time, the speed breaker in question was missing because speed breakers are prohibited on highways.

The deputy commissioner acknowledged that several accidents had occurred due to the illegal speed bump on the road. She claimed that many citizens, including women, had formally requested its construction due to speeding concerns, but the height and slope of the bump were improperly designed, making it hazardous for vehicles.

Conventional speed bumps continue to be used to enforce speed limits in populated areas, but they can be inconvenient for road users.

Assistant Commissioner Irfan Hinjra attended Waseem’s funeral and announced that an inquiry would be launched into the matter.

BODY RETRIEVED: The body of Ajmal, a young man from Sanawan who jumped into the river Indus at Taunsa Barrage on Oct 13, was found on Saturday.

Upon receiving the information, a rescue team arrived at the scene on the first day, collected evidence from eyewitnesses and began rescue operation. An area of 25km was searched for two days, but the body was not found.

On the third day, the rescue team, using boat patrol techniques, found the body and transported it to his relatives’ home in Sanawan.
