RAWALPINDI: A police official was martyred while a drug peddler was killed during an encounter between a police party and drug traffickers in Rawat area on Friday.

Police raids were underway to arrest the other accomplices of the drug traffickers’ gang operating in the limits of Rawat police.

Police spokesman said that following information that some drug traffickers were operating in Bagha Sheikhan area of Rawat, a police party was constituted to conduct a raid and arrest the culprits. He said as the police conducted raids, the drug traffickers opened fire on the police party.

The police retaliation resulted in the killing of a drug peddler and martyrdom of constable Mohammad Ihsan . However, the accomplices of the drug traffickers’ managed to escape.

Shortly after the encounter, SP Sadar Division Mohammad Nabeel Khokhar with police reinforcement reached the spot and started a search for the escapees.

Constable Mohammad Ihsan, 33, joined the police department in September 2015, and was currently posted at Rawat police station. He was laid to rest in his native village in Mandra.
