LAHORE: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved three provincial authorities being established to oversee local level development, sanitation and horticulture bodies in the province.

She presided over a special meeting on Sunday, which took the decision to establish the Punjab Development Authority, Punjab Water & Sanitation Authority and Punjab Horticulture Authority. Legislation in this regard would be conducted later on.

The provincial authorities would formulate policies and plans at the central level, while local development, water & sanitation and horticulture agencies would ensure their implementation.

The meeting reviewed proposals for establishment of governing boards and director generals for the proposed authorities along with the appointment of management boards and managing directors at the local level.

The CM issued directions for conversion of streetlights to solar energy as soon as possible.

Provincial ministers Bilal Yasin and Zeeshan Rafique, the chief secretary, principal secretary to CM, secretaries of the relevant and other senior officials attended the meeting while secretaries of housing and local government departments joined through video link.
