SUKKUR: A fierce clash between two groups of Jagirani clan in the Ghouspur area of Kandhkot district on Sunday left six people dead and three others wounded.
Officials at the Jagan police station and sources in the area said that one group led by Haleem Jagirani strongly objected to the grazing of the rival group’s animals on his farmland. A heated argument between his side and the rivals, led by Shamor, turned into a clash during which both sides took up arms and continued to trade fire for several hours.
Police could not enter the troubled area, located within Haleem Jagirani village, until guns briefly fell silent.
They picked up the victims and transported them to the Kandhkot Civil Hospital, where the deceased were identified as Momin and his brother Kareema, sons of Makhnay — belonging to the Haleem Jagirani group —and Dahir, Ubaid, Temoon and Dil Sher — belonging to the Shamor Jagirani group.
Two of the wounded victims, Hoat and Sher, belonged to the Haleem group and one, Sanam, to the Shamor group.
The bodies were handed over to the heirs after a post-mortem examination.
The area remained highly tense as the two sides had taken up positions till late in the evening and were firing shots.
