KARACHI: A young rickshaw driver was gunned down in Korangi late on Saturday night, police said.

The police said that Mohammed Ahsan Raza, 26, was shot and killed by unknown assailants at Korangi Crossing.

Zaman Town SHO Ateequr Rehman said that the victim was shot inside his rickshaw. After being shot, he ran but fell on the footpath due to excessive bleeding and died on the spot.

He ruled out the possibility of a robbery attempt as his cell phone, cash and other valuables were not taken away.

He said one theory was that a lone suspect hired the rickshaw and opened fire on the driver from behind while traveling in it. The police were investigating the case.

The victim originally hailed from Muzaffargarh.

The relatives told the police that they did not have any enmity.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
