The Mandi Bahauddin police said on Monday it arrested a man suspected of killing his father over a property dispute, nearly two years after allegedly killing his elder brother over a similar issue.

Gojra Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Zaheer Babar Kadhar said in a video message that around two years ago, the suspect allegedly killed his hearing-impaired elder brother over a property dispute.

He said a murder case, a copy of the first information report (FIR) is available with Dawn.com, was registered at Gojra Police Station in Mandi Bahauddin in November 2022 on the complaint of the deceased’s wife and the suspect was arrested and sent to jail.

SHO Kadhar said the suspect was in jail for allegedly murdering his brother and was released after his father paid the bail. He said the police were alerted about a son killing his father with an axe, adding that the suspect had fled after the police reached the scene.

The FIR for the father’s alleged murder was filed on October 19 on the complaint of his brother, the suspect’s uncle, under the murder charge.

The complainant said he took his brother to District Headquarters Hospital Mandi Bahauddin where he died.

The SHO said the suspect was arrested from a forest in Daffar along with the murder weapon. He said, and the FIR mentioned as well, that the father and son had disputes related to property matters.
