KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead and another arrested in wounded condition after an alleged encounter on University Road on Monday, police said.

Mobina Town SHO Mohammed Nawaz said that two muggers on a motorbike intercepted three friends, also riding on a motorbike, near the Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, held them at gunpoint and snatched their cell phones, cash and other valuables.

He said a police patrol arrived at the scene and challenged the suspects who resorted to firing in their bid to flee. In an ensuing exchange of gunfire, a suspect, later identified as Mohammed Mehar, was killed and his accomplice, Mohammed Sohail, was arrested in wounded condition.
