LAKKI MARWAT: A sports festival for the differently-abled persons was organised in Bannu on Tuesday.

The district administration arranged the sports gala, a facilitation desk and a khuli kutchery under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Public Service Agenda to provide the special persons with basic facilities under one roof.

Deputy commissioner Abdul Hameed Khan, assistant commissioner Syed Abrar Ali Shah and other government officials also attended the events.

Players with disabilities from across the district participated in wheelchair race, standing race, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair badminton, standing cricket, standing badminton and wheelchair cricket.

The special persons were also facilitated in getting domicile and birth certificates, computerised national identity cards and admissions in technical and vocational centres.

A free medical camp was also part of the daylong activities where doctors examined persons with disabilities and provided them with free medicines.

The deputy commissioner also heard the problems faced by the differently-abled persons and ordered quarters concerned to resolve them without delay.

Mr Hameed said the disabled persons were an important segment of the society. He said his administration would provide equal opportunities to such persons to bring them into the mainstream.

Mr Hameed distributed trophies and cash prizes among the players of winning and runner-up teams of the sports festival during a colourful prize distribution ceremony.
