OKARA: A woman data entry operator was allegedly shot dead by her brother at her workplace at city DHQ hospital on Wednesday.

According to the first information report (FIR), Sonia Bashir, originally from village 50/3R, located about 20km northwest of the city, was at her workplace at the hospital when her brother, Ajmal Bashir, arrived.

In the presence of witnesses, Ajmal shot Sonia, killing her on the spot, and then fled the scene.

The complainant, Farzand Ali, along with others, attempted to overpower Ajmal but was unsuccessful. The FIR states that Ajmal had a family dispute with his sister, which led to the incident at the hospital.

District Police Officer Muhammad Raashid Hidayat arrived at the hospital, where the crime scene unit, along with the IT team and officials from the Criminal Investigation Agency, collected evidence from the scene.

A case has been registered under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code against Ajmal on the complaint of Sonia’s brother, Farzand Ali. Police are yet to arrest the suspect.

ACCIDENT: Two persons riding a motorcycle were killed when a trailer hit the two-wheeler near Lower Bari Doaab Canal (LBDC) bridge on Faisalabad Road on Wednesday.

Reports said Allah Rakkha, 55, from Syedwala, and his 53-year-old pillion rider, Zarina Bibi, a resident of Sahiwal, were traveling north of the city on Okara-Faisalabad Road near the LBDC bridge when a trailer collided with their motorcycle. Both victims were taken to City DHQ Hospital by Rescue 1122 but succumbed to their injuries.
