SARGODHA: The Pakistan Railway is taking steps to revise the routes of loss-making trains and a draft proposal for new routes is being prepared.

This includes discontinuing certain train services to improve public facilities.

According to railway department sources, divisional superintendents have been asked to submit reports, as many trains across the country are being halted due to financial losses. These trains will be rerouted to provide better service to the public.

Moreover, a report has been sought from the Sargodha divisional superintendent regarding the launch of a new train. The divisional superintendent recently visited Sargodha to review the necessary arrangements.

ENCOUNTER: A robber was arrested and two of his accomplices managed their escape in an ‘encounter’ in Shahpur here on Thursday.

According to the police, they received information about armed men committing a robbery at night on Kandan Road in Shahpur City.

Shahpur Station House Officer Sheikh Safdar Iqbal, along with a heavy contingent, chased the suspects. Upon seeing the police, the armed men opened fire, prompting the police to return fire in self-defence. Police arrested a robber in an injured condition while his two accomplices managed their escape taking advantage of the darkness and nearby fields.

MASS MARRIAGES: Deputy Director Social Welfare Zeba Andalib has said that verification committees have been formed at the tehsil level to check the applications received for the mass marriages programme in Punjab.

He said the assistant commissioner is convener of the committee, assistant director (social welfare) is secretary while the members include assistant director (local government) and a special branch representative.
