LAHORE: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) on Friday approved Rs43 billion for the induction of eco-friendly buses in five major cities of Punjab.

The PDWP’s 39th meeting presided over by Planning and Development Board Chairman Nabeel Awan approved the development scheme for the enhancement of public transportation while promoting environmental sustainability.

The eco-friendly buses will be inducted in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad and Bahawalpur with an objective to reduce air pollution, alleviate traffic congestion, and provide a reliable, efficient mode of transportation for residents.

The initiative is expected to improve the quality of urban life, making public transport more accessible and attractive to commuters aiming to align with global environmental standards and contribute to the overall well-being of its citizens.

The meeting was attended by P&D Board Secretary Dr Asif Tufail, Transport department secretary Ahmed Javed Qazi, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, members of the P&D Board and other senior officers concerned.
