KARACHI: EWS Pinktober Padel Tournament was launched under the Empowering Women in Sports (EWS) on Saturday to raise awareness and generate funds for breast cancer patients.

The padel tennis tournament, organised by Samia Mufti of EWS, was inaugurated by British Deputy High Commissioner in Karachi Sarah Mooney, who was also the chief guest, at Maidan, KMC Sports Complex.

Speaking on the occasion, the British diplomat said that sport was very important and empowering for women as it helps build not just physical health but also their character and personality as a whole.

“But a few women are involved in it around the world as compared to men,” she said and added that it was great that a sport was being used to raise awareness about breast cancer and generate funds for its patients.

Ms Mufti said the tournament aims to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer treatment and through it, essential free screenings, including mammograms and ultrasounds, will be provided to women from marginalised communities at Pakistan Eye Bank Hospital.

It also aims to empower women in sports by facilitating them through resources and support they need to succeed, she said and added that the funds generated in the tournament would be donated for treatment of breast cancer patients.
