MUZAFFARGARH: A pregnant woman was brutally tortured by her husband and in-laws for not conceiving a son.

In Shehr Sultan, Moqadas Batool was subjected to abuse after doctors informed her family that she was expecting a daughter for the second time. Moqadas, who already has a six-month-old daughter, was attacked when her husband and his family learned the gender of her unborn child. They reportedly beat her, leaving her critically injured. She was later admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

In her plea for help, Moqadas claimed that her husband, father-in-law, and brother-in-law had all participated in the violence, which also extended to her infant daughter.

She urged the chief minister to take action against her husband’s family and provide her with protection.

Moqadas, who was married 18 months ago and hails from Pakpattan, said her husband and his family had always been unhappy with the birth of their first daughter. After confirming that she was pregnant again, the family reacted violently upon learning that the baby would be another girl.

The Shehr Sultan police said they were currently investigating the matter.

REMOVED: Kot Addu Deputy Commissioner Syed Munwar Abbas Bukhari has removed Dr Nusrat Rehman from her position as medical superintendent of the Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) Hospital at Sarwar Shaheed Chowk.

This decision was made following her involvement in ‘immoral and anti-government’ content on social media.

The deputy commissioner wrote a letter to the secretary of Primary and Secondary Health Department, requesting her removal based on government regulations that prohibit officials in administrative positions from engaging in negative social media activity.

Dr Rehman was dismissed from her role after the district administration reviewed her posts and deemed them inappropriate.

RESOLVED: Issues between local lawyers and the administration were settled after the lawyers tendered apologies to the Karor Lal Essan assistant commissioner on Saturday. DG Khan Commissioner Nasir Mahmood Bashir and the members of the Punjab Bar Council played a role in resolving the issue. Complainant Tehsildar Mohammed Umer Khan asked the police to quash the FIR. The issue stemmed from AC Anam Akram’s action when she lodged a case against the lawyers under terrorism and other sections. She did so after receiving threats from the lawyers on 19 October while working in her office. The lawyers also broke the windowpanes and tore government files and papers in front of the AC and her staff.
