MUZAFFARGARH: The Chowk Azam police on Sunday arrested seven suspects involved in an honour-related double murder case.

The suspects were identified as Saqlain, Zahid, Akram, Asif, Farooq, Mahboob and Usman.

According to details, Azra Bibi, 26, had got divorce from her husband Saqlain and married Amir. At this, Saqlain and Azra’s brother, Zahid, killed her with blows of an axe at Chak 285/TDA.

The suspects tried to settle the dispute with Amir’s family through reconciliation but failed to do so as his brother Nayyar Abbas opposed it. At this, they opened fire and shot dead the 23-year-old Nayyar Abbas and injured his uncle Ramzan in connivance with their accomplices.

Police had registered the cases against the suspects and arrested them on Sunday.

SMUGGLING: Smuggled goods worth millions were seized by Saddar police at Head Taunsa Barrage, Kot Addu.

During inspection of vehicles on the road, Kot Addu Saddar police found goods, including imported cloth, dry milk, worth Rs21m. SHO Zawar Hussain reached the spot and confiscated the smuggled goods. On the order of Muzaffargarh District Police Officer Syed Hasnain Haider, a crackdown on smuggling is going on.

TRADER KILLED: A businessman was killed and two others were seriously injured after resisting an attempted robbery in Khangarh on Sunday evening. The robbers opened fire on local trader Nazeer Bhatti and three others when they resisted the robbery attempt. Bystanders managed to capture the robbers, severely beating them and breaking their legs before handing them over to the police.

Nazeer Bhatti was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries en route. His body was sent for a postmortem examination and police have registered a case against the robbers. According to the Khangarh police, three armed robbers entered Bhatti’s large grocery store, where he resisted and attempted to restrain them before they opened fire.

The three injured people, identified as Muhammad Nazeer, Hanif and Shabbir were also taken to the hospital for treatment. Police have arrested the robbers and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
