RABAT: The Arab Summit meeting closed here today [Oct 29] with a major compromise agreement between Jordan and the Palestine Liberation Organisation... . In a historic declaration, the 21 Arab leaders, declared that the PLO is the sole authority in Palestine State comprising Palestinian territories, including west bank, at present under Israeli occupation. The Summit assured all-out Arab support to oust Zionists from Palestine. Earlier, the Summit Conference unanimously passed a final document … recognising the PLO right to represent the Palestinian people and establish an independent national authority over Palestine territory at present occupied by Israel.

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from the UN,] the Soviet Union said yesterday [Oct 28] that it stood for nuclear-free zones, but reserved its position on Pakistan’s proposal for nuclear weapon-free zone in South Asia and Iran’s parallel initiative for a similar zone in the Middle East. “The final position on the one or the other proposal on this matter can be taken subject to its concrete merits”, Mr A.A. Roschin, the Soviet representative … said.
