SARGODHA: The University of Sargodha inaugurated its first international conference on ‘Frontiers in Chemical Sciences 2024’, with the theme ‘recent trends and sustainable development’ by the Institute of Chemistry.

The two-day event gathered national and international experts, including distinguished researchers and industry leaders, to discuss advancements in chemical sciences, particularly in sustainable practices and environmental conservation.

The inaugural session featured prominent academics, including Prof Dr Akif Anwar Chudhry, VC of the University of Education Lahore, and Prof Dr Muhammad Saeed Iqbal from Forman Christian College.

Also in attendance were UoS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mian Ghulam Yasin, Prof Dr Rizwanur Rehman Sagar from Australia, Prof Dr Thomas Maisal from Austria, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Dr Amir Ali and Director of the Institute of Chemistry Prof Dr Muhammad Sher.

Prof Abbas said that the conference offered students, researchers and faculty the invaluable opportunity to interact with leading minds in chemistry, encouraging them to pursue impactful research that contributes to societal progress.

Prof Iqbal added that universities are central to innovation, with the University of Sargodha exemplifying this through the conference’s collaborative environment. He said the role of universities is to empower the scientific community to tackle global challenges. Prof Dr Amir Ali said chemistry’s unique position as a bridge between humanity and nature, aiding our understanding of and harmony with the environment.

ACCIDENT: Sub-inspector Mohammad Tufail of Ata Shaheed police died in a road accident on Faisalabad Road near the Election Commission Office while travelling from Ata Shaheed to Kot Momin.

The collision occurred when Tufail’s motorcycle collided with another vehicle. A passing car then struck him, resulting in a fatal head injury.

He was taken to DHQ Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The car driver fled the scene, and police are conducting raids to arrest him.

Tufail’s funeral was held in his native village, Chak 49 North where RPO Shehzad Asif Khan and DPO Dr Asad Ejaz Malhi and several citizens attended the service.

BLIND MURDER: Sillanwali police solved the case of a ‘blind murder’ just four hours after the disappearance of Muhammad Khan, whose dismembered body was discovered in a field. The investigation revealed that Ghulam Nabi, of Sillanwali, killed Khan, allegedly over an unpaid debt. Nabi reportedly called Khan to his home, where he tortured him to death and later disposed of the body by scattering it in a field.

RESULT: The Sargodha Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education has announced the results of the second annual supplementary examination. Out of 11,272 candidates, 6,271 passed with an overall success rate of 55.63%.

A total of 11,272 students appeared for the supplementary examination, of whom 6,269 private candidates had a pass rate of 55.63%, and 4,101 out of 7,913 male students passed with a rate of 51.83%. Female candidates excelled, with 2,168 out of 3,357 passing, marking a 64.58% success rate.
