BAHAWALPUR: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Multan handed down life imprisonment on two counts, along with Rs2 million, to a man for abducting a boy for ransom and later killing him.
According to prosecution, the accused, Dilbar, abducted 11-year old Hamdan for ransom in the limits of Makhdum Rasshid police station in May, 2024 and later killed the boy.
The police after registration of a murder and abduction case, arrested Dilbar and submitted the case challan in the ATC, Multan.
The ATC Judge, Zulfiqar Ali, announcing the judgement, awarded Dilabar life term, with Rs2m fine. The fine amount would be given as a compensation to the victim’s family, the judge ordered.
The judge also ordered confiscation of the convict’s movable and immovable property.
Similarly, Mailsi Additional Sessions Judge (ADSJ) awarded life term, along with Rs50,000 fine to a man for raping a girl in Karampur police station.
According to prosecution, the accused, Sohail, had raped a young girl ‘F’.
Karampur police, after registration of case against Sohail, arrested him and submitted the challan in the court.
The judge handed down life imprisonment to Sohail, along with a Rs50,000 fine.
SUSPECTS INJURED: Police claimed to have arrested a suspect allegedlyinjuredduring an encounter in the limits of Lodhran police station.
According to Lodhran police sources, two suspects were signaled to stop at a picket near 376/WB village in the limits ofJallah Araian police station on Tuesday night.
The suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party, that was retaliated.
During the crossfire, one of the suspects, identified as Nasar Iqbal, a resident of Sargodha, was injured by his own accomplice, Ahsan Makhan, who managed to flee, the police claimed.
The police arrested the injured suspect and recovered a snatched motorcycle and a Kalashinkov gun from him. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment and a case was registered against him and his fleeing accomplice.
In the second incident, occurring in the limits of New Multan police station, a police party, escorting a suspect Islam, was allegedly attacked by four armed motorcyclists near Iqbal Town.
In the firing by the attackers, Islam, a resident of Tariqabad, was seriously injured, the police said. The attackers fled the scene.
The police got the injured suspect admitted to hospital and registered cases against his unidentified accomplices.
SNAKE BITE: A man allegedly got his elderly father bitten by a snake for refusing to transfer property in his name at 57/Fateh village near Hasilpur, about 90kms from here on Wednesday.
According to officials of police and Rescue 1122, they were informed that one Bashir Ahmed (75) was bitten by a snake.
A Rescue 1122 team reached the spot and provided first aid to the man and shifted him Hasilpur THQ Hospital.
The police said quoting the victim’s family members that his son, Nazir, first tied him to a charpoy and then got him bitten by a poisonous snake.
Police said that Nazir managed to escape.
The police are investigating the matter.
EXAM RESULT: Only 6,082 candidates were declared successful, out of total 12,269 candidates appearing in the matriculation (second annual) examaination,2024 held by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Bahawalpur (BISE), showing a pass percentage of 49.57.
