KARACHI: The Pakistan Navy (PN) rescued an Iranian fishing dhow with 23 fishermen onboard on Thursday.

According to a PN statement, PNS Zulfiquar, deployed on a regional maritime security patrol, responded to a distress call from the Iranian vessel, Al Muhammadi, which was stranded over 1,200 nautical miles from its home port.

Upon establishing communication with PNS Zulfiquar, the crew of Al Muhammadi reported a seriously injured crew member and a malfunctioning engine, requesting urgent assistance. PNS Zulfiquar responded swiftly by dispatching its medical and technical teams. The injured fisherman and two other sick crew members were examined and treated. Additionally, the ship’s technical team successfully repaired the dhow’s engine.

The statement said that the PN regularly deploys assets on regional maritime security patrols as part of its commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
