PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Friday received over 80 employees of the provincial government, who were behind bars in Islamabad after their arrests during the D-Chowk protest earlier last month.

Video footage shared on social media platforms showed Mr Gandapur showering flower petals on the employees after their arrival at the Chief Minister’s House early on Friday.

PTI sources told Dawn that the government employees arrived at the Chief Minister’s House at around 5am on Friday, where they were received by Mr Gandapur.

A party insider told Dawn the chief minister gave the detained employees Rs10,000 each ‘from his own pocket’. Besides, he also announced to give these employees a one-week leave so that they could take rest following their detention.

Similarly, Mr Gandapur also announced to give them one-step promotion; however, the party insider insisted a formal notification in that regard had not been issued so far.

He said there were 42 personnel of Rescue 1122, 35 policemen and seven tehsil municipal administration employees among those released. A Rescue 1122 official said six of the agency’s employees were still in the ‘custody’.
