KARACHI: A high-powered 17-man United States Steel Mission arrived in Karachi on Tuesday [Nov 2] to investigate the steel req­uirements and resources of Pakistan, says a Pakistan Government Press note. The Mission, which is headed by Mr E. W. Robbins, Regional Director (Far East) of the United States Steel Export Company, comprises of about 13 technical experts — besides the Secretariat. … During their stay … the Mis­sion will visit important places in Pakistan — including East Pakistan — and prepare a Pakistan steel survey. The Mission will also advise Government on the question of establishing a steel industry in Pakistan… .

[Meanwhile,] the Sind Government will appoint shortly a chief engineer to supervise the development of hydro-electric power in the province, it was learned in Karachi… . It will be recalled that the Sind Government have drawn up a scheme of large-scale electrification of the province within five years.

The biggest hydro-electric power station is to be set up at the proposed site of the Lower Sind barrage, which is expected to supply power to industries in the interior. Also connected with the development of the area … is a colonisation scheme.
