Omer was a mischievous, yet intelligent, boy, capable of doing many great things. He excelled in sports, academics and much more. However, he often made fun of others who were not as talented or capable as he was. His life seemed perfect; he had many friends and enjoyed life to the fullest. He had never been alone, as everyone flocked to him because of his excellence.

One day, while returning home from a football match, Omer thought it would be fun to play a prank on his parents. He decided to pretend he was jumping off the roof. After preparing for the prank, he called out to his parents, shouting, “Mum! Dad! Look! I can do this stunt!”

Having recognised his pranks before, his parents brushed it off and left, thinking it was just another joke. Little did they know that this prank would lead to a tragic outcome.

As Omer attempted to come down, his foot got stuck, and he slipped from the roof. Initially, he held onto the railing and shouted for help, but his parents thought it was another prank and ignored him. Unfortunately, Omer lost his grip and fell to the ground. When the sound of his fall reached them, his parents rushed outside to find their son lying on the floor, severely injured. They quickly took him to the hospital.

After treating him, the doctor informed Omer’s parents that he was fine, but also delivered the heart-breaking news that he would never walk again. Overwhelmed with grief, Omer became silent and refused to see anyone. He became increasingly aggressive due to his inability to do the things he once loved. Most of his friends abandoned him, leaving him alone and lonely.

When school resumed a week later, Omer decided to hide his fear and sadness behind a façade of anger. People viewed him with pity, which only fuelled his rage, making him feel even more isolated. If anyone tried to befriend him, he would humiliate them in return.

Two weeks into the school year, a project was assigned, for which students had to create something related to technology, experiments or community service. Omer was grouped with two classmates, Ali and Samar, who were kind-hearted and tried to console him after his accident. However, Omer treated them with disdain.

As the deadline approached, Ali and Samar began discussing ideas, but Omer dismissed them, belittling their suggestions. Deep down, he was grappling with guilt for his foolish prank that had changed his life forever.

One day, their teacher asked about their project. When it was Omer’s group’s turn, the teacher inquired, “How is your project going?”

Ali and Samar exchanged nervous glances, while Omer contemptuously stated, “They can’t do anything; they’re just useless.”

The teacher, understanding Omer’s situation, responded, “This is a team project. If you don’t work together, you will all be disqualified.”

Annoyed, Omer left the class, while Ali and Samar decided to continue working, hoping Omer would eventually join them.

On his way home, Omer saw a boy older than him on a wheelchair. He followed the boy to a garden where he was coaching kids how to play football, despite being unable to play himself. Omer was impressed. Hesitating at first, he approached the boy and introduced himself.

“What’s your name?” Omer asked.

“My name is Saad,” the boy replied.

Curious, Omer asked, “How long have you been like this?”

Saad answered, “Since I was ten years old.”

At that moment, Omer realised that there were many others in situations worse than his own.

He asked, “How do you manage everything with this condition?”

Saad smiled and replied, “It’s simple. I accept my reality and adjust my life to fit my situation. I loved playing football, but since I can’t, I decided to teach others instead.”

Omer was struck by Saad’s words. “So you’ve turned your adversity into strength,” he said.

“Yes,” Saad smiled. “But the first step is accepting your reality, and then you can move forward.”

Omer went home, called Ali and Samar to meet him at his house. Both were confused by the invitation but somehow, they arrived.

Omer without wasting time apologised for his behaviour and said, “I have a brilliant idea if you’re willing to listen.”

“Sure, tell us,” they said.

Omer proposed, “Let’s create a group that connects people facing similar challenges, so they can support each other. We can start a camp where we help people discover what they love to do and learn from experienced individuals.”

Ali and Samar exchanged excited glances and exclaimed, “That’s a great idea! It could help so many people, and we might even win first place!”

From that moment on, the three of them began working on the project. Omer slowly recovered from his sorrow, and their teacher recognised their efforts. They completed their project and received appreciation, ultimately winning first prize.

From this experience, Omer learned that if a person stays calm and confident while bravely facing every situation, they can overcome any challenge. Moreover, sometimes your greatest weaknesses can become your greatest strengths.
