TAXILA: A local court on Saturday sentenced a man to 14 years in jail for attempting to rape eight-year-old girl near her house in the limits of Wah Saddar police station in 2019.
An FIR was lodged against the nominated accused under sections 376 (punishment for rape and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or for a shorter term) of the PPC on the complaint of the victim’s father.
Additional Sessions Judge Muzaffar Nawaz Malik announced the verdict after final arguments from the prosecution and defence sides.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on the convict and if he failed to pay the fine, he would have to undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment.
He was remanded back to the prison to serve out the sentence.
Two sentenced to death
Two murder convicts were handed down death sentence for killing wife and brother-in-law in two different cases registered against them in 2018 and 2022 respectively in the limits of Wah Saddar Police station.
In the first case, a man was sentenced to death for killing his wife over a domestic dispute in Taxila.
Taxila’s Additional Sessions Judge Muzaffar Nawaz Malik on Friday convicted Imdadullah for the murder of his 25-year-old wife Fatima Bibi at her parent’s house located on Gatia road in the limits of Wah Saddar police station on June 22, 2018.
The judgement was announced in an open court after considering evidence and arguments from the prosecution and the defence sides.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 on him, which is to be paid to the legal heirs of the victim.
The culprit will also face an additional 6 months in jail if e failed to pay the fine.
The same court sentenced to death Shahid Khan for killing his brother-in-law Mujahaid Khan over family feud in Mohallah Darbar Kareemi in the jurisdiction of Wah Saddar police station on April 12, 2022.
The judge announced his verdict after recording evidence from both sides. The judge ruled that the prosecution had successfully proved the charges against the accused, and handed down the death sentence to him.
