KARACHI: Enraged people severely beat two suspected robbers and tried to lynch them but police rescued them in Surjani Town on Sunday, officials said.
Surjani Town SHO Ghulam Husain Pirzada said that two suspects were committing a robbery in Sector 7-B near ‘Juma Bazaar’ when area people gathered there and overpowered them.
He said that the mob subjected the suspects to severe beating and some people tried to lynch them but the police arrived at the scene and took them into their custody.
He said that the wounded suspects were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where their condition was stated to be out of danger.
They were identified as Arman Qadeer, 25, and Imran Kausar, 30.
The police claimed to have recovered two pistols and one motorbike from their custody.
Meanwhile, three persons were shot at and wounded in a clash during a wedding ceremony in the Mewa Shah area late on Saturday night.
Pak Colony SHO Malik Mumtaz said that the clash took place among the relatives and both sides resorted to firing, resulting in bullet injuries to Amanullah, 45, Amir Muzaffar, 16, and Shahzad Abbas, 8.
The wounded persons were taken to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi, where their condition was stated to be out of danger.
Also on Sunday, a suspected robber was shot at and arrested in a wounded condition in an alleged encounter in Nazimabad.
The suspect was identified as Mehmood Riaz. The police claimed to have recovered one .30-bore pistol, mobile phone and a motorcycle from him.
